Wealth Advisors Process
To create the personalized portfolio that will meet your goals, we’ll develop a deep knowledge of your finances and needs. Once we have done the research, we will present you with a range of options for a course of action. Ultimately, the decision of where your money goes is completely up to you, but we will be with you every step of the way to make sure it gets done right.
Throughout this process, your time commitment can remain flexible. If you would like to work closely with us, we welcome the collaboration. If you would rather hand it off and let us do the work, that’s fine, too. Regardless of how much time you have, we will put in the hours to plan and execute sound financial strategies on your behalf.
The outline below gives you an idea of how we work with our clients. It might take a small investment of time in the beginning, but we will do everything we can to make it go as smoothly as possible.
Discovery
We’ll start with a conversation to get to know you and your goals. Tell us what you want to accomplish: retirement income, college funds, legacy or philanthropic gifts – anything you want. Then show us what you have to work with. Bring the statements and other documentation we ask for so we can see your assets, liabilities and cash flows for the present and future. The discovery meeting usually lasts about an hour, and we can meet wherever is most convenient for you.
Planning
Based on what we learn in the discovery meeting, we will build a first draft plan that includes several options for action. One of these will be a “recommended” scenario complete with a suggested mix of investments that we think is the smart way to go. Then we’ll meet again – at a time and place of your choosing – to go over the options, answer your questions and agree on the right path forward.
Roadmap
Next we put together a customized Investment Policy Statement (IPS) that will be the cornerstone of our investment management process. The IPS is a roadmap for all investment decisions that need to be made over the course of the plan. It clearly identifies both objectives and constraints and also suggests a strategic way to allocate your assets. We will meet one final time before implementation begins so we can go over the IPS and address any lingering questions or concerns.
Implementation
At this final meeting, we will ask you to fill out an investment management agreement to formalize our relationship. Then we get to work putting your plan into action. You will be given a detailed plan that tells you exactly when we will open accounts, transfer assets and make investments.
