Nationally Recognized Captive Insurance Leader Michael Corbett Joins Pinnacle Financial Partners in Nashville
Michael A. Corbett will join Pinnacle Financial Partners March 16 as a financial advisor specializing in captive insurance and related services for commercial clients. He will be based at the firm’s headquarters in downtown Nashville.
Corbett comes to Pinnacle with over 40 years of financial experience, many of it working within the captive insurance industry. He was also the chief financial officer or treasurer of five publicly traded companies. Corbett is the former regulatory director of captive insurance for the State of Tennessee’s Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI), where he licensed 669 Risk Bearing Entities (RBEs) made up of 200 captive insurance companies and 469 cell companies, representing over $1.4 billion in annual premiums.
“Michael wrote the book on captive insurance in Tennessee,” said Sam Belk, senior lending officer at Pinnacle. “He built and led the state’s captive insurance regulatory system, so his familiarity with the complexities is invaluable. He will help us expand our captive insurance services and develop a robust program to benefit our clients. The opportunity for Pinnacle to bring on board someone with this level of experience and statewide connections is tremendous.”
Corbett was named 2015 Captive Professional of the Year at the US Captive Service Awards. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 he was named to Captive Review Magazine’s “Power 50 List” of the global industry’s most influential leaders.
Prior to Corbett’s work for the State of Tennessee, he developed an institutional financial consulting practice at Morgan Keegan & Company, Inc. that focused on captive insurance companies. During that time, Corbett sat on the finance committee of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association and served as its chairman.
“I am extremely impressed with the commercial team at Pinnacle,” Corbett said. “I’ve spent many years in the thick of the captive insurance market, and the timing is perfect to bring those skills to bear at Pinnacle right now. This firm differentiates by providing clients expert advice that they would not get elsewhere, and I’m happy to share what I know and help clients create the most beneficial insurance arrangements for their companies.”
Corbett earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with additional study at the London School of Business.
